1.Hydraulic shock

There are many factors that produce hydraulic shock, such as when the excavator bucket hits the stone during excavation, and the moment when the crane lifts or lowers the heavy object. In addition to external factors, for high-pressure and large-flow hydraulic systems, when the actuators (hydraulic cylinders or hydraulic motors, etc.) are reversing, if the performance of the reversing valve is not very good, it is easy to produce hydraulic shock. The instantaneous high pressure generated by hydraulic shock may be several times the working pressure of the system, so the high pressure will tear the oil seal or partially squeeze into the gap in a short time, causing serious damage. Therefore, Linde Polymer recommends that the hydraulic shock cylinder should be equipped with a buffer ring and a back-up ring on the piston rod.

2. Movement speed

When the movement speed is very low (0.03m/s), the stability of the equipment operation and whether there is a “crawling” phenomenon should be considered. When the moving speed is high (>0.8m/s), the lubricating oil film may be damaged, and the rubber sealing ring will be frictionally heated due to poor lubrication, resulting in a greatly reduced service life.

3. Working medium

In addition to selecting the working medium strictly according to the manufacturer’s recommendation, it is also very important to keep the working medium clean. Aging or contamination of the oil will not only cause the components in the system to malfunction and accelerate the aging and frictional damage of the oil seal, but dirt may also scratch or embed in the oil seal, rendering the rubber seal ring ineffective. Therefore, the quality and cleanliness of the oil must be checked regularly, and the oil filter or oil must be replaced according to the equipment maintenance specifications. And the residual air in the oil cylinder will be burned or even carbonized by high-pressure compression. In order to avoid this situation, exhaust treatment should be carried out in the initial stage of hydraulic system operation. The hydraulic cylinder should also be operated slowly under low pressure for a few minutes to confirm that the residual air in the oil can be discharged before it can work normally.

4. Side load

Support rings generally must be installed on the piston to ensure that the cylinder can withstand greater loads. The rubber seals and the support ring play completely different roles, and the rubber seals cannot replace the load of the support ring. Hydraulic cylinders with lateral force must add support rings with strong bearing capacity (metal rings can be used for heavy loads) to prevent leakage and abnormal wear of the oil seal when it works under eccentric conditions.
