Faucet seals are leaking water

If you find that the cause of the leak is not loose nuts, then you need to replace the seal ring. The sealing ring of the faucet can be a tight sealing ring consisting of one or more O-shaped rubber rings, or it can be something like a string or soft metal wire wrapped around the spool under the packing nut.

When replacing the faucet seal ring, follow these steps:

Step 1: Turn off the water supply and remove the faucet handle.

Step 2: Unscrew the packing nut and remove both the nut and the old sealing ring from the spool.

Step 3: Install new sealing ring. If you are using a linear sealing material, wrap it several times around the spool. If it is a sealing material such as soft metal wire, only wrap around the spool.

Before you put the faucet back together, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the threads of the spool and the threads of the packing nut. This makes it easier to install.
