About Radial Shaft Seal

Radial shaft seal, also known as rotating shaft seals or oil seals, are used to retain oil on the rotating shafts of motors, pumps, bearings and gearboxes. These seals are located between a rotating and a stationary part, or between two relatively moving parts, and consist of two main parts: a cylindrical housing with an interference fit, which statically seals the housing bore, and a sealing lip, which dynamically seals the housing bore. And statically seal the housing hole and shaft.

Introduction

Radial shaft seal is located between a rotating part and a stationary part, or between two parts that move relative to each other. This seal has two main components. The first component is a cylindrical housing with an interference fit that statically seals the seat bore. The second component is the sealing lip, which dynamically and statically seals the shaft. Its sealing edge is pressed against the mating surface of the shaft under specified radial load.

Radial shaft seal is used in a wide range of applications, from slow-moving equipment to high-speed rotation, and in temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 500 degrees Fahrenheit. They are available in a variety of materials and designs to meet specific requirements and requirements for different applications.

Function

The main purpose of a radial shaft seal is to prevent leakage while keeping contaminants such as dirt, dust and water out. The sealing lip is usually made of an elastomeric material such as rubber or silicone and provides a flexible seal between the shaft and housing. Springs are often used to help maintain contact between the sealing lip and the shaft.

The main function of the radial shaft seal is to isolate the parts that need to be lubricated inside the machine from the external environment, to prevent lubricating oil from leaking internally, and to prevent contaminants from entering the machine (such as water, chemicals and dust) externally, so as to achieve extend the operating time of your machinery.

Application

1. Pump shaft seal
Radial shaft seal is widely used in shaft seals of various types of pumps, such as centrifugal pumps, gear pumps, screw pumps, etc. During the working process of the pump, there is a gap in the contact surface between the shaft and the pump body. If it is not sealed, the fluid will leak out from the gap, affecting the efficiency and normal operation of the pump. The radial shaft seal can effectively seal the pump’s rotating shaft and pump body to prevent mutual interference between the media inside and outside the pump and ensure efficient and stable operation of the pump.

2. Compressor sealing
The compressor needs to handle the compression of gas during its working process. If the compressor shaft is not properly sealed, the gas will leak out when the compressor rotates, reducing the efficiency of the compressor. The radial shaft seal plays a key role in the compressor, ensuring the effective sealing of gas under high pressure and ensuring the stable operation of the compressor.

3. Sealing of mixing equipment
Stirring equipment often needs to stir and mix while rotating at high speed, so it has high requirements for sealing. Radial shaft seal in mixing equipment can effectively prevent the leakage of mixing materials while ensuring the stable operation and mixing effect of the equipment.

4. Rotor and bearing sealing
In the fields of engineering machinery, automobiles, aerospace and other fields, components such as rotors and bearings often require radial shaft seal to prevent the leakage of lubricating oil or grease and the entry of impurities, thereby ensuring the normal operation and service life of mechanical equipment.

5. Sealing of industrial equipment
In addition to the above application fields, radial shaft seal is also widely used in sealing various types of industrial equipment and machinery, such as fans, centrifuges, centrifuges, rotating shafts, etc. In general, radial shaft seal play a key role in industrial production and equipment operation. It ensures the normal operation of the equipment and the safety and efficiency of production by effectively preventing the leakage of media and the entry of external impurities.
